Casino Nova Scotia is located in Nova Scotia, Canada, and has locations in Halifax and Sydney.

Halifax casino

The Casino Nova Scotia opened a temporary location in the Sheraton Hotel Halifax on June 1, 1995. On April 24, 2000 it moved to a brand new, $100-million "Vegas-style" facility on the downtown Halifax waterfront. It was originally owned by Caesar's until October 2005, when Casino Nova Scotia was bought out by Great Canadian Gaming Corporation.

The casino has 650 slots and table games. There is an attached 550-car parkade, including 14 wheelchair-accessible spaces.

The casino is connected via pedway to the Marriott Halifax Harbourfront, formerly the Casino Nova Scotia Hotel and Sheraton Hotel Halifax. The pedway also connects to Purdy's Wharf, Scotia Square, and the downtown core.

The Casino is a smoke-free venue in accordance with Provincial Regulations.

Patrons using Ticket-In, Ticket-Out slot machines are now given bar-coded paper tickets instead of coins or tokens. The casino adopted this policy mid way through 2006.

The Lucky Ladies wager is a bet, by the player, that the first two cards dealt to them will total 20.

One dollar is taken out of every raked pot, in addition to the normal table rake, in order to build the jackpot.

There are Early Bird Tournaments Monday - Wednesday. Sit & Go Tournaments and different table limits are available upon request. Full scale No-Limit Tournaments (80 entries or more) are usually held on a monthly basis.

Restaurants and lounges

Trapeze

Harbouring a full size bar and dining facility, Trapeze officially opened on June 1 2006. replacing its predecessor T.G.I. Friday's. Trapeze offers more of a fine dining experience than that of T.G.I. Friday's casual dining style. Smoking is not permitted in the restaurant and patrons must be 19 years of age or older.

The Harbourfront (Lounge)

The Lounge has recently been remodelled (2007) and most of the slot machines removed. The Lounge, which is non-smoking, provides full bar service and has several televisions (usually tuned to sports programming). Free Live Entertainment is performed Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (9 PM - 1 AM).

chooner Showroom & The Compass Room

"Signature Attractions" and concerts are presented in the Schooner Room located at the top of the escalators above the Casino floor. The Schooner Room and The Compass Room also offer Convention-type facilities.

Hotel

Originally Casino Nova Scotia had an affiliation with the Sheraton Hotel located within close proximity to the casino. When the Casino was sold to Great Canadian the affiliated Sheraton Hotel was sold separately to the Marriott Corporation.

Structural engineering

Engineered by BMR of Halifax, the casino has been described as one of the most complicated in the company's history. The size of the site meant that part of the building was built over water 70 feet deep (at its deepest point). Most of the land that the casino occupies had been created years earlier when that part of Halifax Harbour was infilled with loose rock and excavation material from other construction sites — reclaimed land was too soft to serve as a stable building foundation. BMR overcame the problem by engineering a design which incorporated driving caissons through the fill material and into the bedrock below. Then, using a specially designed doughnut-shaped pile cap as a support system, the engineers worked with the form work contractor to hang the casino’s floor structure on the supporting caissons like a huge wharf. Sydney casino

The Sydney casino is Casino Nova Scotia's sister casino which opened on August 1, 1995.
