2CC was Canberra's second commercial radio station, and began broadcasting in 1975. It instantly topped the Canberra ratings survey gaining a reputation as one of Australia's most progressive and successful radio stations. 2CC continued its dominance over Canberra's other commercial radio station, 2CA, throughout the latter half of the 70s and most of the 80s. In 1988, Kix 106 (now Mix 106.3) and FM 104 (now 104.7) went to air as Australia's first supplementary FM licences (also the first commercial FM licences since 1980). Kix 106 was a supplementary licence of 2CC, and FM 104.7 a supplementary licence of 2CA. In the mid-1990s, due to the AM stations dwindling audience and the increasing popularity of the music based FM stations,
ARN , owner of 2CC &Mix 106.3 andAustereo , owner of 2CA &FM 104.7 , merged together to form a joint venture ownership of both FM stations, selling off 2CC and 2CA to the Capital Radio Network. In 2004, 50% ownership of 2CC & 2CA was sold to Grant Broadcasters.Current

2CC provides a 24 hour news service. It’s own, locally based, Capital Radio News Service provides news bulletins from 6.00am every half hour during its breakfast show and then hourly from 9.00am - 6.00pm Monday to Friday. It also broadcasts locally based half hourly news bulletins from 6.00am - 9.00am (then hourly till midday) on Saturday and Sunday mornings. At all other times hourly news bulletins are networked from 2UE in Sydney.
