Serigne Saliou Mbacké (May 1915 –
December 28 ,2007 ) was theGrand Marabout of theMouride movement inSenegal .Shaykh Salih Mbacké was the fifth
caliph of Mouridism and a son of CheikhAmadou Bamba , the founder of the Mouride movement. Mbacké was the third or fourth born child from a mother whose children died at birth. As Shaykh, he was credited for his transformation of the village of Touba into Senegal's second largest city.Mbacké was a spiritual advisor to President
Abdoulaye Wade (a Mouride himself), but kept shy from political involvement. He died at the age of 92 onDecember 28 2007 and was buried in Touba onDecember 29 ; a three-day mourning period was declared.
