Botafogo Futebol Clube, or Botafogo, as they are usually called, or even Botafogo (SP) or Botafogo of Ribeirão Preto, is a Brazilian football team from Ribeirão Preto in São Paulo state, founded on October 12, 1918.

History

On October 12, 1918, União Paulistano, Tiberense and Ideal Futebol Clube, which were local teams of Ribeirão Preto, fused. The new club was then named after Botafogo of Rio de Janeiro. The club's first president was Joaquim Gagliano, who was an employee of Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro ("Mogiana Railway Company"). Botafogo FC's first match was against Esporte Clube Fulgêncio, in Franca. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Botafogo.

In 1927, the club won its first title, the Campeonato do Interior Paulista. In 1956, Botafogo won Campeonato Paulista Série A2, defeating Paulista in the final.

In 1996, Botafogo was the runner-up of Campeonato Brasileiro Third Division. In 1998, Botafogo was the runner-up of the second division of Campeonato Brasileiro, being promoted to the following year's first division. In 2001, Botafogo was relegated to the Campeonato Brasileiro Second Division. In 2002, Botafogo was relegated to the Campeonato Brasileiro Third Division. In 2003, Botafogo, after a poor campaign, was relegated to the Campeonato Paulista Second Division. In 2006, the club won the Campeonato Paulista A-3, beating São José, being promoted to the following year's A-2 (Campeonato Paulista's second level).
