Herrerism

Herrerism is a political faction of the Partido Nacional in Uruguay.

History, and prominent members

It is named after the leader and founder of the faction, Luis Alberto de Herrera (1873-1959).

Herrera's grandson, Luis Alberto Lacalle (1941-), President of Uruguay 1990-1995, has long exercised a leading rôle in the grouping.

Herrera's great-grandson Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou [ 'Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou' [http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luis_Alberto_Lacalle_Pou] ] has also been elected a Senator under the sponsorship of the grouping.

Distinction, and controversy

The founder of the grouping, Luis Alberto de Herrera is widely regarded as a distinguished figure in Uruguayan history.

His great-grandson, Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou, has been associated with controversial discussion of the nature of political families in Uruguayan politics.
