Kentucky Mountain Bible College (located near Jackson, KY in Breathitt County) was established in 1931 by Dr. Lela G. McConnell and Rev. Martha Archer in order to train young people from the Appalachian foothills of Eastern Kentucky in the areas of ministry and missions. KMBC is a ministry of the Kentucky Mountain Holiness Association. Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute initially offered a two year Bible course, later expanding to a three year program in 1938. In 1989 Candidate Status was granted for institutional accreditation with the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges (now Association for Biblical Higher Education). With this KMBC began offering a four-year B.A. Degree in Religion along with a two-year A.A. Degree in Bible/Biblical Studies. In 1994, KMBC was granted membership with AABC (ABHE). KMBC now has over 1000 graduates scattered around the world serving in various aspects of Christian ministry.

History

KMBC was established in 1931 by Dr. Lela G. McConnell for further training of young people in the Kentucky Mountains. At the time it was named Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute (KMBI) and was located approximately 3 miles from the present site. On July 5, 1939 a cloudburst on Frozen Creek caused a flash flood that destroyed the original school, as well as many of the homes that were near the school. Forty-four houses, sixty barns, numerous trees, cattle, and rocks, were picked up, carried away and dashed to pieces. Fifty-two people lost their lives in less than three hours. But, in October of that year, the school re-opened at a new site, located far above flood waters, in a half-finished building with 18 students. Today KMBC continues to grow under the leadership of its forth President Dr. Philip Speas. In 2007, KMBC is still completing the task for which it was started, seventy five years ago: training men and women to minister, both at home and abroad.

Mission

The mission of KMBC is to equip God-called men and women with:
*a passion to know God,
*a passion to prepare for His Ministry,
*a passion to live and teach the message of Biblical holiness,
*and a passion to evangelize and disciple the world for Christ.

Fictional alumni
