Antonio I of Monaco

Antonio I (January 25, 1661 – January 20, 1731) was the Prince of Monaco from 1701 to 1731, and the First Marquis of Beaux.
He was the son of Louis I, Prince of Monaco, Second Duc de Valentinois and Catherine Charlotte de Gramont.

Marriage and Children

Antonio married June 13 1688 Maria of Lorraine (12 August 1674-30 October 1724), daughter of Louis of Lorraine-Armagnac.
The marriage was arranged by Louis XIV in person.

They had six children of whom only two, Louise and Margaretha, survived infancy :
*"Antonetta" (1690-1696)
*"Caterina Carlotta" (7 October 1691-18 June 1896)
*"Elisabeth Carlotta"
*Louise Hippolyte (1697-1731)
*"Margaretha Camilla" (1 May 1700-27 April 1758)
*"Maria Paolina Teresa Devota"

Antonio also had a number of illegitimate children:
*with Elisabeth Durfort (a dancer)
**Anton Grimaldi (1697 – 1784), known as "le Chevalier de Grimaldi"
*with Victoire Vertu (dancer at the Paris opera)
**"Antoinette Grimaldi", mademoiselle de Saint-Rémy
*with an unknown woman
**"Louise Marie Thérèse Grimaldi" (1705 – 1723)
