Ė ė is the 9th letter in the Lithuanian alphabet.

It was coined by Daniel Klein, the author of the first grammar of the Lithuanian language [DOClink| [http://www.euro-languages.net/lithuania/upload/files/euro_languages_lt_25.doc The Lithuanian Language: Traditions and Trends, Giedrius Subačius] |1.5 MB] .

This character is also used when transliterating the cyrillic letter Э э into the Latin alphabet.

Its pronunciation in Lithuanian language is always the one of a long and narrow "e" sound, compared to a wider "ę". It is pronounced as in the word 'bear'.
