The USS "Cronin", "Algérien" and "Oise" are all names of a
frigate owned at various times by theUS Navy and theFrench Navy . (USS "Cronin" is also the name of a different ship of the US Navy.)The ship was originally the USS "Cronin" (DE-107), a US Navy ship named for
Cornelius Cronin , a sailor who was awarded theMedal of Honor during theAmerican Civil War . DuringWorld War II , the "Cronin" was transferred to theFree French naval forces underlend lease on 23 January 1944, and renamed the "Algérien". She was returned to theUnited States , and later re-transferred to France under theMutual Defense Assistance Program 21 April 1952 with the name "Oise".
