French frigate Oise

French frigate Oise

The USS "Cronin", "Algérien" and "Oise" are all names of a frigate owned at various times by the US Navy and the French Navy. (USS "Cronin" is also the name of a different ship of the US Navy.)

The ship was originally the USS "Cronin" (DE-107), a US Navy ship named for Cornelius Cronin, a sailor who was awarded the Medal of Honor during the American Civil War. During World War II, the "Cronin" was transferred to the Free French naval forces under lend lease on 23 January 1944, and renamed the "Algérien". She was returned to the United States, and later re-transferred to France under the Mutual Defense Assistance Program 21 April 1952 with the name "Oise".
