John Yate Robinson (born
August 6 ,1885 — diedAugust 23 ,1916 ) was afield hockey player, who won a gold medal with the English team at the1908 Summer Olympics inLondon .He was educated at
Radley College andMerton College, Oxford , where he received an MA. He was on the Oxford University hockey team from 1905 through 1909, eventually captaining it.He became a Captain in the
North Staffordshire Regiment in 1914, and served atGallipoli and inMesopotamia . He was mentioned in despatches and awarded theMilitary Cross .He died at
Roehampton , from wounds he had received in action atEl Hannah in Mesopotamia.References
