Invertebrate zoology

Invertebrate zoology

Invertebrate zoology is the biological discipline that involves the study of invertebrates.

As invertebrates account for 97% of all animal species, this subdivision of zoology has many further subdivisions including but not limited to:

*Arachnology - the study of spiders and other arachnids
*Entomology - the study of insects
*Malacology - the study of mollusks
*Carcinology - the study of crustaceans
*Invertebrate paleontology - the study of extinct invertebrates

These divisions may be further divided into more specific specialties. For example, within arachnology, acarology is the study of mites and ticks; within entomology, lepidoptery is the study of butterflies and moths, etc.
