It was released in Britain in September 2002 and peaked at number 2 the following January after the success of second single "Year 3000 ". "What I Go to School For ", "You Said No " and "Sleeping with the Light On " were also released as singles and all reached the top 3 of theUK Singles Chart ."Busted" was reissued soon after its initial release with three bonus tracks — "When Day Turns Into Night", "Everything I Knew" and "Extra Exceedingly Fitness" — while "Crash and Burn" adopted its single title of "You Said No". "Extra Exeedingly Fitness", a short
interlude on guitar, is not written on the album artwork.Six tracks were co-written with John McLaughlin and/or Steve Robson, [ [http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:kxfoxqraldse allmusic] ] who often collaborate with each other. [ [http://www.windsweptpacific.com/thewriters/j_mclaughlin.asp Windswept] ] The other five songs were written by the band themselves.
Both "What I Go to School For" and "Year 3000" were covered by the
Jonas Brothers in 2006.Reception
Allmusic states: " [Busted] slide smoothly between... dull teen pop ballads with the sickeningly overwrought vocals typical of the genre... and relatively more creative stuff that punches up the formula with pop-ternative production and smirking, yet still squeaky clean lyrical witticisms. At best it'sBBMak with better cheekbones; at worst, Busted is a neuteredSum 41 ". [ [http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:kxfoxqraldse allmusic] ]On
bbc.co.uk Jacqueline Hodges wrote: "Think a younger, BritishWheatus orBlink-182 junior and you will be along the right lines. Their cheeky and geekyGreen Day -type lyrics... are endearingly refreshing in these days ofGareth Gates andRonan Keating mush". [ [http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/release/n4gb/ bbc.co.uk] ]"Q" was more positive, Dan Stubbs writing: "Tales of copping off, time travel and a five-fingered fantasy about a schoolteacher with a nice bottom are delivered through inspired one-liners and clever gimmicks". [Stubbs, D., "Busted", review, "Q", December 2002.]
