- Arctic Silver
Arctic Silver Inc. is a
California -based company that manufactures thermally conductive compounds (sometimes called "thermal grease ") andadhesive s commonly used for the application ofheat sink s to high-poweredelectronic components .Products
Arctic Silver 5 (AS5)
Arctic Silver 5 is a high-density polysynthetic silver, zinc oxide and aluminum oxide thermal compound, which has become the company's most popular product. Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally-conductive filler by weight. In addition to micrometre sized silver, Arctic Silver 5 also contains sub-micrometer
zinc oxide ,aluminum oxide andboron nitride particles. These particles are added to further improve the compound's performance and long-term stability. It does not contain anysilicone .Thermal resistance of 0.001 in (25 micrometer) layer: <2.9 mm²•K/W (pressure not specified). [http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm]It should be noted that AS5, although slightly conductive and capacitive, is not as great a danger to electronics as believed. Its ability to capacitively couple adjacent traces only becomes a problem under high pressure. This is one of the reasons the Ceramique compound was developed.Fact|date=August 2008
Céramique
Céramique is a high-density composite of thermally conductive aluminum oxide, boron nitride and zinc oxide sub-micrometer particles. It is not electrically conductive nor capacitive, which makes it a better choice than AS5 when there is a possibility that the thermal compound could come in contact with the pins of an
integrated circuit .Thermal resistance of 0.001 in (25 micrometer) layer: <4.5 mm²•K/W [http://www.arcticsilver.com/ceramique.htm]
Arctic Alumina
Arctic Alumina is a
ceramic s-based polysynthetic thermal compound, which is similar to AS5. However, Arctic Alumina is manufactured using sub-micrometre aluminium oxide.Thermal resistance of 0.001 in (25 micrometer) layer: <6.5 mm²•K/W [http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_alumina.htm]
Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive
Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive is a silver-based dual component epoxy adhesive. Like Arctic Silver 5, the cured adhesive can be slightly capacive, so when any electronic contacts are touched, Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive is recommended instead. Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive
Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive is a
ceramic s-based dual component epoxy adhesive, which uses a layered composite of aluminum oxide and boron nitride. It is a pure electrical insulator, neither electrically conductive nor capacitive. [http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_alumina_thermal_adhesive.htm]ArctiClean
ArctiClean is a product marketed to remove thermal heatsink paste. Two components are used in a two-step process. The first step utilizes the Thermal Material Remover which emulsifies the existing paste. The second step uses the Thermal Surface Purifier which removes the residue left behind from the first step and to further clean the surface. [http://www.arcticsilver.com/arcticlean.htm]
