The West Bridgford School is a co-educational Comprehensive school in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England.

History

The school was originally West Bridgford Grammar School and became West Bridgford Comprehensive in September 1969. It is now called The West Bridgford Spiecalist Technolgy College and remains a comprehensive. The school's original site was on "Musters Road", which is now occupied by Musters Medical Practice. In September 1938 the school moved to a newly constructed building adjoining "Loughborough Road", which is now its main building. It kept some of its old grammar school ethos long after it became a comprehensive: Latin and Classics were taught and rugby was given priority over football until the 1970s. As well as that their school building and uniform makes it look like an old established school. Its catchment area was the east side of the old LNER railway line (now Green line nature reserve) in West Bridgford and included Ruddington.

The School is a Foundation School and a specialist Technology College, delivering the National Curriculum and emphasising Mathematics, Science and Design Technology. In public examinations the school achieves some of the top results in the County [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/education/06/school_tables/secondary_schools/html/891_va_lea.stm BBC NEWS | Education | League Tables | Secondary schools in Nottinghamshire ] ] and, at 'A' level, in the country. A recent innovation is the new school day, based on a 50 lesson two week timetable with years 8 and 9 having their fourth period split before and after lunch, commencing at 8.30 and finishing at 2.45. The school has raised more than £1 million for development and refurbishment and expects work to start on the new building later in 2008.

In both 2006 and 2007, the school received the best A level results in Nottinghamshire for a state school, and in a recent Ofsted inspection the sixth form was seen to be 'Outstanding'. [ [http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/122/122859.pdf West Bridgford School ] ]

In 2007, the English department made the decision to enter one set 1 group in to do their SAT exams (English only) one year early due to great achievement in classtime. The group did exceptionally well with nobody achieving under a level 6.Now, all students take their English SATs in year 8, regardless of ability.
