Gareth Fleming

Gareth Fleming (born March 6, 1980) is a New Zealand musician from Auckland.

Fleming was born in Auckland and spent nine years of his childhood in Christchurch before returning to Auckland in 1989. During his school years at Listin College, Fleming met the vocalist/guitarist of his future band Blindspott, Joel Rowell. Rowell soon transferred to Rutherford High, where he met Shelton Woolright. From 1993-1994, the three formed the band "Synthetic Insanity".

In 1995, the band changed its name to "Wrench" and started to produce more original music for their live shows. After a short split-up at the end of 1995 and early 1996, Fleming and Woolright reformed the original line-up of Blindspott. Marcus Powell, a childhood friend was also recruited as guitarist. At the end of 1996, Joel Rowell left the band to pursue his own goals, and was replaced by Damian Alexander.

In 2000, Blindspott entered the NZ "Battle of the Bands", where they earned a place in the finals. After missing first place, Blindspott decided to release "Nil by Mouth" independently. The single became a radio hit throughout New Zealand, "Room to Breathe" and "SUIT" followed shortly after, which gave them a contract with EMI. Their self-titled album, released in October 2002 debuted at the top of New Zealand charts and currently sits at triple platinum sales as well as having a gold single (Phlex). After touring south east Asia, and selling triple platinum in New Zealand, Fleming left due to personal reasons in late 2004 to start "Forever now" with Chris Griffiths and brother Corey Fleming.
