Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania , the son of Mabel Grace Champion and George Harper. US Navy , Harper returned to New York. After several disappointments he earned a job asPaul Newman 's understudy in "Sweet Bird of Youth ". Moving to Hollywood, he appeared in a succession oftelevision series during the 1960s and 1970s; "87th Precinct" with Robert Lansing, "The Jean Arthur Show ", "Wendy and Me " withGeorge Burns andConnie Stevens , "Garrison's Gorillas ", "Planet of the Apes" and the third season of "Land of the Lost". He then embarked on a successful acting career as a secondary supporting actor.His first role was in 1960 in the
NBC series "Tales of Wells Fargo ". Steady guest appearances followed during the 1960s. Later, Harper appeared in severalsoap opera s, including the CBS soaps "Where the Heart Is" and "Love of Life" and guest-starred on various television programs during the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and up to 2006.
