Viscount Ruffside

Viscount Ruffside

Viscount Ruffside, of Hexham in the County of Northumberland, was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1951 for the politician Clifton Brown on his retirement as Speaker of the House of Commons. The title became extinct on his death in 1958. His daughter Lady Audrey Hylton-Foster was given a life peerage as Baroness Hylton-Foster in 1965. This was in honour of her husband Sir Harry Hylton-Foster, who, like his father-in-law, served as Speaker of the House of Commons.
