organic acid prepared by boilingacetylene dicarboxylic acid , obtained by the action ofalcoholic potash ondibromosuccinic acid , or its acidpotassium salt with water. It forms silky crystals which melt at 6 °C, and boil at about 144 °C with decomposition. It is soluble in water and possesses an odor resembling that ofacetic acid . Exposure tosunlight converts it intotrimesic acid (benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid).Bromine converts it intodibromoacrylic acid , and it gives withhydrochloric acid O-chloracrylic acid. It forms a characteristic explosivesilver salt on the addition ofammoniacal silver nitrate to itsaqueous solution , and an amorphousprecipitate which explodes on warming with ammoniacalcuprous chloride . Itsethyl ester condenses withhydrazine to formpyrazolone .References
