- USS Green Bay (LPD-20)
PCU "Green Bay" (LPD-20), a "San Antonio"-class amphibious transport dock, is the second ship of the
United States Navy to be named for the city inWisconsin . The ship is designed to deliver a fully-equipped battalion of 699 officers and marines.The contract to build her was awarded to
Northrop Grumman Ship Systems ofNew Orleans, Louisiana , on30 May 2000 and her keel was laid down on11 August 2003 . "Green Bay" was christened on15 July 2006 . Rose Magnus, wife of the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, GeneralRobert Magnus , served as the ship’s sponsor. "Green Bay" is scheduled to be commissioned in 2008 or 2009 and be assigned to theU.S. Pacific Fleet .References
