*June 3 - Dutch Leonard tosses the second no-hitter of his career, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 5-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

July-September

*September 11 - Against the backdrop of World War I, which forced the premature ending to the regular season on September 1st, the Boston Red Sox defeat the Chicago Cubs, 2-1, in Game 6 of the World Series to win their fifth World Championship, and third in four years, four games to two. The Red Sox would not win another World Championship for 86 years. The drought was often attributed to the Curse of the Bambino. The alleged curse came to be when the Red Sox traded the superbly talented but troublesome Babe Ruth (who was instrumental in their 1918 victory) to the New York Yankees for cash after the by|1919 season.
