- Kheda district
Kheda District has a population of 2,024,216 of which 20.08% were urban as of 2001. [http://www.censusindiamaps.net/page/India_WhizMap/IndiaMap.htm] It covers an area of 3,943 sq. km. Kheda city is the administrative headquarters of the district. The district has over 600 villages. It is bounded by the districts of
Gandhinagar andSabarkantha to the north,Panchmahal to the east,Ahmedabad to the west, and Anand andVadodara to the south.Anand District was carved out of Kheda District in1997 .The major towns of the district include
Kheda ,Nadiad ,Balasinor , andDakor . Dakor houses a temple of Lord Ranchodrai, a form ofKrishna . The temple town ofVadtal comes within this district.The main crops include
bajra ,cotton andtobacco . Commerce in the district includes trade in cotton and tobacco. The district is home to a thermal power station, nearDhuvran .Balasinor Fossil Park is one of the three largestdinosaur sites in the world.Kurmi/Kanbi Kshatriyas of Punjab established many villages in this area.
