Euro Hockey Tour

Euro Hockey Tour (EHT) is an annual ice hockey tournament only open to the national men's teams of the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and Sweden. Most teams use the competition as preparation for the World Championships or Olympics, allowing less experienced players to collect valuable ice time in their national colours.

Playing format

EHT consists of four tournaments: Ceska Pojistovna Cup in Czech Republic, Karjala Tournament in Finland, Channel One Cup in Russia and LG Hockey Games in Sweden. After the four tournaments have finished, the teams are seeded according to the combined point total from all four tournaments, and play in the EHT Finals.

In each tournament, five games are played in host city, and one in other participating country. Every country has one home and one away game in those games. For example in 2007 edition of Karjala Tournament, game between Sweden and Russia was played in Jönköping, Sweden rather than in Finland who hosted the Karjala Cup.

Finals

The first and second placed teams play each other in two games in the EHT Gold Medal Games, and the third and fourth placed teams play against each other in two games called the EHT Bronze Medal Games. The winner of the Gold Medal Games is declared winner and counts as the unofficial European Champion.

The EHT Gold medal Games and the EHT Bronze Medal Games were not played until season 2003-04. Before that, winner, second and third place were determined by final EHT standings. Seasons 2003-04 and 2004-05 had two-games playoffs, season 2005-06 only one game. In season 2006-07 the playoffs are played over two games. For season 2007-08 no EHT Finals will be played.

Prize money

For season 2007-08 to 2010-11 the prize money for each tournament is €120,000 and the EHT season winner will receive another €120,000.

Season 2005-06

EHT finals 2005-06

The EHT finals 2005-06 were played in Globe Arena, Stockholm, Sweden, on May 1, 2006. Russia beat Sweden in the final with 2-1 and won the EHT. Finland won over Czech Republic with 3-2 and clinched the 3rd place.
