The Awesome Threesome is the name of a DC Comics supervillain group who first appeared in the 1967-1968 animated "Aquaman" series by Filmation, before appearing also in the comic book series "Aquaman" in issue #36 (November-December 1967). They were created by Henry Boltinoff and Nick Cardy.

History

The Awesome Threesome are a trio of robotic creatures. Torpedo commands the group. The other two are Claw, and Magneto (not to be confused with the Marvel Comics character). They attack the 21st Century Expo and destroy a scale model of Aquaman's city, called the Atlantean Pavilion.

Aquaman, Mera, Aqualad, Aquagirl , and Aquababy inspect the pavilion's remains. With the heroes distracted, the threesome slip into the 'Science Hall'. Their next target is the Gyro-Moleculizer. It is utilized to move the people out of the way. The group declares that the people attending the expo should 'enjoy' their weightless state or be harmed.

Aquaman and Aqualad hear of the attack and enter the hall. They recognize the Threesome and a battle begins. They are defeated and the Moleculizer is destroyed. Nearby, a twelve-foot alien appears and threatens a monorail. The two heroes leave to assist.

All the heroes work together to save the passengers and battle the alien. The alien escapes and the passengers are rescued without harm. Aquaman and Aqualad follow the alien towards Atlantis, dealing with the Threesome and a kraken on the way. When the alien reaches Atlantis, it teleports into a flying saucer and departs.

Questioning Tordpedo, Aquaman learns the alien was a convict whose sentence was five thousand years imprisonment on earth. The Gyro device was keeping it on earth. The Awesome Threesome were being telepathically controlled in order to destroy it.

Aquaman and Aqualad return to the Expo to enjoy what remains of it.

Villains United

They made no further appearances in the comics as a team, but Torpedo-Man later made a cameo in the "Villains United" miniseries 2005, as part of Lex Luthor's Society.
