6 October 1964 inElverum ) is a Norwegian barrister and politician for theNorwegian Labour Party . He is currently the Minister of Justice and the Police serving in thesecond cabinet Stoltenberg . He took office in 2005.He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from
Hedmark in 2001, and has been re-elected on one occasion. He had previously served as a deputy representative during the terms 1993–1997 and 1997–2001. In October 2005 he was appointed Minister of Justice and the Police in thesecond cabinet Stoltenberg . His seat in parliament was taken byThomas Breen .On the local level he was a member of
Elverum municipal council from 1991 to 1999.Outside of politics, he studied
political science at theUniversity of Oslo , but graduated with thecand.jur. degree in 1990. He worked as a lawyer from 1992 to 2002.References
