South Gloucestershire ,England , on the outskirts of the city ofBristol . It lies between the two larger communities of Winterbourne andFrenchay and is part of theCivil Parish of Winterbourne . Though Hambrook has become a commuter village with the M4 running through it, the village has retained a largely peaceful, semi-rural appearance despite its proximity toBristol , to the large town ofBradley Stoke and to the shopping centre atCribbs Causeway .Hambrook is at the south-western foot of Winterbourne Hill. The village has woodlands and hilly fields leading down from Winterbourne. The village's most distinctive feature is its common (or village green) which locals refer to as 'Hambrook' or 'Whiteshill Common' given its closeness to the hamlet of Whiteshill. Site of the Civil Parish's war memorial and the village's
primary school , with cosy cottages flanking it on either side and offering views of Winterbourne Hill, Hambrook Common makes a peaceful retreat.Cricket attracts a crowd here in the summer months.Opposite the Common is Whiteshill Evangelical Church and just down Bristol Road lie the pub/restaurants of "The Hambrook", "The White Horse" and "The Crown". The
Frome flows partly through Hambrook, though more exactly through the hamlet of Moorend, a mostly wooded area where families can enjoy walking their dogs etc. The Bradley Brook also flows through the village. The
Avon Ring Road acts as a barrier, dividing some of the village and abruptly ending the rural beauty. On the other side of the Ring Road, Hambrook meets its larger neighbour,Frenchay A lane passing through the village, known as the Old Gloucester Road, is the original
stage coach route toGloucester .It is also the name of a village close to Chichester in Sussex.
