Hoard magazine

Hoard magazine is an online art and culture publication that was launched December 2000. It was established in San Francisco, California by film and video artist Vivian Giourousis [http://www.vivg.com] . The publication features works of various genres and mediums such as photography, painting, mixed media, film and creative writing. The online collection also includes essays, art analysis, and documented artist interviews. It features artists of varying levels of popular success, but places a primary focus on underground culture artists.

Hoard magazine has documented the work of artists such as Skye Thorstenson, Rene Capone, Claudio Parentela, Jerry Wennstrom, Bill Dunlap, Peter Max Lawrence [http://www.petermaxlawrence.com] , Lisa Alisa, John John Jesse, Ray Caesar and Ryan Pfluger, with a list that continues to grow.

Hoard magazine is an example of the extended history and evolution of the DIY ethic and draws its roots from self-directed art movements such as Maya Deren's grassroots promotion of avant garde film, Ray Johnson's mail art, and Punk rock. Online internet technology and its vast global reach has provided a powerful tool for underground artists interested in sharing and promoting their art. The spirit of DIY culture in combination with the common accessibility of the internet has spawned independent and alternative media sources such as Hoard magazine.
