- WINDSAT
WINDSAT is a joint
Integrated Program Office /Department of Defense/NASA demonstration project, intended to measureocean surfacewind speed andwind direction from space using a polarimetric radiometer. It was launched aboard the Coriolis satellite by aTitan II rocket on 6 January2003 into a 830-km 98.7-degreeorbit , and is designed for a three-yearlifetime .Capability/Improvements
*Measure
ocean surface wind direction (nonprecipitating conditions ) with a 25-kmspatial resolution econdary Measurements
* Sea surface
temperature
*Soil moisture
*Rain rate
*Ice andsnow characteristics
*Water vapor References
