Jim Shelley (musician)

Jim Shelley (b. James Bowman Nipe, February 29, 1952), an American singer-songwriter, musician, poet and teacher recognized as an influential long-time figure in the American lo-fi and cassette culture music scenes, has received critical acclaim for his melodic songs and literate, introspective lyrics. Since the release of his first album in 1979, Shelley has usually recorded his records in his home studio, more often than not performing all the instrumental and vocal parts himself. Shelley has played a handful of live shows on the East Coast with various rock bands under the name Book of Kills, Book of Proles, The Plague Dogs, and The Karl Rove. He is a prolific writer, having released some 500 songs on over forty albums.
