- Project Fame
Project Fame was a pan-African version of the international talent/reality show "
Star Academy ". Held inJohannesburg ,South Africa from June to August 2004, the show had 16 African contestants - 9 of which were South African - groomed for stardom, with the weakest being eliminated on a weekly basis; the top three received record deals and the winner got a lot more prizes. The contestants were eliminated in the following way: the Board (judges) place four contestants on probation, the teachers save one, the other contestants save another and viewers save a third, thereby eliminating the last contestant. As the show progressed, the number of contestants placed on probation rose to five resulting in two contestants being eliminated. The last five remaining contestants' fates were determined by viewers' votes.
An East African version called "
Tusker Project Fame " aired from October 1st to December 172006.The show can be described as "Idols" meets "
Big Brother Africa " as the contestants' daily activities were recorded 24 hours a day.Final results
"*These contestants performed better than their equally" "ranked contestants as they were on probation less often."
In 2006 the Tusker project fame show was based in Kenya, None the less it was unfortunate that endamol disqualified Renee Olende for saying she voted for Nakayaa over Tina because she felt Nakayaa's performance was better. It was so strange how her eviction was not shared with the public who vote for her and lost money. Truth be told, the girl displayed some serious talent - if you looked past the personality that the show portrayed of her. Kenya missed out then, lets hope she will come back to the music arena blazing.
Renee's profile: Singer- song writer, plays the piano and guitar, dancer - featured on dance 360 and dance Africa season 1 finalist in Kenya, holder of a Bachelors degree in Communication - Radio/TV/Film production and an MBA in Marketing, a person with a great personality and so cultured. I used to be a hater till I met her in person. I think the whole world has to know the potential we have in Kenya.
Its ironical that in 2008 when contestants were conspiring they were not disqualified by endamol. KBL should have done better to protect Renee in 2006, they made a bad choice, lets see what comes out of it. So far nothing. May be it is true when they saying tusker project fame is a marketing approach used by Tusker, the company could care less weather you can sing or not. If they get you drinking their products they have achieved their purpose.
Word of advise don't believe the hype, what you see on reality TV is produced, edited and sometime scripted.
