Sandy (band)

Sandy is a Persian rap/pop music group that was popular in the 1990s.

History

Iranian-born Frankfurter Shahram Azar formed the band in 1987 with drummer Behzad Pishrow and E-Guitar player Reza Zamini. Keyboard player Vahid Habibzadeh and E-Bass player Homayun Moshir Akhbari joined in 1990.

In 1993 their album Begu Dustamdari was released, featuring the song Arusi Bandari, styled after the traditional Bandari music of the Persian Gulf region of Iran but played on electronic instruments. Dokhtare Hadjialmas followed in 1994.

Two years later the group released a third album, Ding Dang, with the major hit Dokhtar Ahwazi. Around this time Sandy began to tour the United States, and met interested musicians. Now based in Los Angeles, one of the world's major Persian diasporas, the current members of Sandy are:
