Afutu

The Afutu are an ethnic group of Ghana. A branch of the Akan people, they founded a Gold Coast kingdom in roughly 1300.

They are located on the coast near the capital Accra. People believe they are connected to the people of Accra and have a common tribal link with the tradition of wenniba. The main occupation is fishing along the coast.

The famous king of the afutus is Nana Kwasi Gyan Quartey (I). He was a famous for his fishing activities,had many wives as many as 12 and had more than six children with each wife. He helped to develop the town and its people by building various structures including the police station,the secondary school, and all the major huge building in the town.

Afutu speak efutu language, which is similar to the Ga language.
