*Procopius's long-lost "Secret History" is rediscovered in the Vatican Library.
*François le Métel de Boisrobert comes under the patronage of Cardinal Richelieu.
*The King's Men perform "Twelfth Night" at Court on Candlemas, February 2.
*On July 20, Henry Herbert (Sir Henry as of August) becomes the deputy of Sir John Ashley, Master of the Revels, and takes over the office's duties. From 1623 until the theatres close in 1642, Herbert effectively controls professional drama in England.
*John Hacket's Latin comedy "Loiola" is staged at Trinity College, Cambridge on February 28, and is repeated on March 12 for King James on his third visit to the University. The play mocks both Catholics, in the person of Ignatius Loyola, and Calvinists, who are represented by Martinus, a canting elder of Amsterdam.
*The First Folio edition of Shakespeare's works is published in December.
