The splenius cervicis (splenius colli) arises by a narrow tendinous band from thespinous processes of the third to the sixththoracic vertebrae ; it is inserted, by tendinousfasciculi , into theposterior tubercles of thetransverse processes of the upper two or threecervical vertebrae .
