It previously programmedABC Radio 's "True Oldies" format from 2004-2006, big band/adult standards music from 2002-2004, and Christian religious talk before that. In the past, the station had served as the flagship for theWorcester Tornadoes minor-league baseball team and an affiliate for theUniversity of Massachusetts at Amherst network for football and men's basketball broadcasts.On
May 8 ,2006 , WCRN changed to its current format, featuring former U.S. CongressmanPeter Blute in morning drive,Hank Stolz (previously atWTAG -AM 580, also a news/talk station in Worcester),Laura Ingraham ,Michael Savage , Jerry Doyle andDoug Stephan weekdays, and programming fromTalk Radio Network andRadio America on weekends.Howie Carr was on WCRN from its debut as a talk station untilSeptember 17 ,2007 , when WCRN dropped his show over uncertainties over Carr's contract status at his Boston flagship station,WRKO , and his (at the time presumed) move to crosstown talk rivalWTKK .
