Pavel Shternberg

Pavel Karlovich Shternberg (April 2, 1865 – February 1, 1920, both dates New Style) was a Russian astronomer and revolutionary, which contributed to the abolishement of the government by Kerensky. A friend of Lenin and Trotzky. The main scientific results concern the planetary perturbations, the measuremenet of the latitude of the Moscow Astronomical Observatory, photographing of the double stars and application of the photography to the astronomy. As a revolutionary He mounted arms at the Obsevatory in Moscow, which were directed to the Moscow Kremlin and contributed to the establishment of the bolsheviks rule in Moscow .He contributed also to the destroy of the army of Kolchak in Siberia.

Sternberg Astronomical Institute and Moon crater Shternberg are named after him. [cite web
