Anas Altikriti (born
September 9 ,1968 ) is President of the Cordoba Foundation. One of the leading figures of the British Anti-War movement, Altikriti also served as president of theMuslim Association of Britain between 2004- 2005.Altikriti holds an MSc in Translation and Interpreting. He teaches translation and interpreting on part-time basis at
Leeds University . He headed the Respect Yorkshire and Humberside slate for the European elections in 2004. He is of Iraqi and Sunni origin and from the birthplace town ofSaddam Hussein .Altikriti chaired more than 20 major demonstrations including the demonstration against the
Iraq war organized inLondon onFebruary 15 2003 . He was also special envoy to Iraq to negotiate the release of Western hostages. As a regular commentator in the International and Arab media (e.g.BBC ,CNN , ABC, SKY,Al-Jazeera , etc.) on Muslim and current affairs, he has appeared onHARDtalk and the Doha Debates (both withTim Sebastian ), ‘Lateline’ on Australian ABC and BBC’s Newsnight as well as a number of prominent programs on a variety of international channels. Altikriti has contributed a number of articles toThe Guardian ,Al-Ahram Weekly and Islam Online.In late 2005 and 2006 he made a number of trips to Iraq in efforts to release British hostage
