Lee Dorman

Lee Dorman

One of two men named Lee Dorman (born September 15, 1942) is an American bass guitarist who played with Iron Butterfly and Captain Beyond. He began playing bass guitar in his teens. Dorman's performances were both musically and physically powerful, with his bass slashing the air, his feet pounding the stage and his bass notes forward in the music played by both bands.

Dorman is from St. Louis, Missouri, and moved to San Diego, California in the 1960s. Over the years, he has often been confused with a radio personality of the same name. That Lee Dorman (born November 25, 1943) was one of Nashville's top rock and roll disc jockeys in the 1960's. Lee Dorman the DJ played Lee Dorman the bassist's records on the radio. He is still active in radio management and programming.

While recording "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", Iron Butterfly's Dorman assisted Erik Brann with the arrangement of Brann's song "Termination," and was given a co-writing credit.
