Hotel Georgia (Vancouver)

Hotel Georgia is a historic hotel located at 801 West Georgia street in Downtown Vancouver. It was opened on May 7 1927, as a 12 storey building. It was most recently branded as the Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia with 313 rooms, by owner Allied Hotel Properties Inc. In 1998, it underwent a major restoration and renovation. The building and many portions of the interior are designated as a protected heritage property by the City of Vancouver. Sold in early 2007, the hotel is currently undergoing restoration and redevelopment.

Famous guests who have stayed at the Georgia include:

* Nat King Cole
* Prince of Wales (later the Duke of Windsor)
* Elvis Presley
* Louis Armstrong
* The Beatles
* Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip
* Errol Flynn died while a guest at the hotel in 1959 (though not in the hotel)

Future

Currently the hotel's parking structure has been demolished and a new high-rise building is being constructed in its place. When complete in 2011, it is expected to be the 3rd tallest tower in the city, after the Living Shangri-La and Ritz Carlton Tower. All three of these developments are new mixed use hotel/residences towers on Georgia Street.
