In the year 1990 vivek paul a young and bright engineer from USA was selected by GEMedical to look after its fledgling business in India.GEMedical was known as IGE and it wasn't going great guns compared to Siemens and Philips in India.GEIOC also had Steve Brandon who was looking at Indian market with different glasses.HCL and WIPRO were two very small PCmaking companies who fought the battle of winning the joint venture with GE.Premji and his team were smart and able to get the JV in their favour.DAPrassanna was appointed as the President of Wipro GE who was an old Premji loyalist and an efficient and effective leader.Vivek was the business development manager with GEIndia office overseeing WGE operations. He was a bright young man and very hilarious with his team members. His laughter was contagious. He could be in USA on a day and fly over to Singapore and come back to delhi and stand on nathu sweet shop trying to sell Nathu's son an MRI machine. He took over from DAPrasanna and turned the company around and that is where he got a chance to work with Premji very closely.People who know Premji and Vivek will have no surprise that their relationship came to an end--those two personalities are entirely different.
