- Hong Lim Park
Hong Lim Park (zh-sp|s=芳林公园|p=Fānglín Gōngyuán) is a
park located near Chinatown in the Singapore River Planning Area ofCentral Area ,Singapore .The park was known as Hong Lim Green, which was Singapore's first
public garden created and maintained byCheang Hong Lim , who was a businessman andphilanthropist . It was a popular venue for election rallies, political speeches and public performances in the 1950s and 1960s.In 1885, Cheang Hong Lim also erected Singapore Chinese Recreation Club House at his own expense. The club stood in the centre of Hong Lim and had some outstanding cricket and hockey national players. The club house and field had been demolished now.
Cheang Hong Lim died on
February 11 1893 .On
September 1 2000 , a section of Hong Lim Park is demarcated as theSpeakers' Corner, Singapore and open to Singapore citizens to make speeches and have public debates.[National Parks Board Singapore - Hong Lim Park] Hong Lim Park is suitable for having family gatherings and organising events and activities including band performances, line dance and yoga. Fitness Corner is also available for doing workouts and exercises there.
