AMC-3 (formerly GE-3) is a
communications satellite owned bySES Americom currently ingeostationary orbit . It was built byLockheed Martin based on theA2100 A design, and launchedSeptember 4 ,1997 fromCape Canaveral aboard an Atlas IIAS launch vehicle. AMC-3 is situated at 87° westlongitude coord|0|-87|display=title, providing coverage ofNorth America with twenty-fourC band transponder s of 12-18watt s each, and the same number of Ku band transponders withamplifier powers of 60 watts. Current users inOctober 2005 includeFox Sports Net and PBS, among other services.The satellite has an expected lifetime of at least 15 years.
