Stanisław Samostrzelnik (c. 1490 – 1541) [ [http://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/html/s/samostrz/index.html Web Gallery of Art, image collection, virtual museum, searchable database of European fine arts (1100-1850) ] ] was a Polish Renaissance painter and Cisterian monk from Kraków. He was the first Polish painter known by name who painted in the Renaissance style. There are many frescos by him in the churches of southern Poland. Possibly his most well known work is that of the "Portrait of Piotr Tomicki", which, following a $12,000 donation, recently had restoration work carried out.

Stanisław Samostrzelnik gained recognition for his ornamental miniatures in the genealogical book of the Szydłowiecki family, polychrome painting in the Cistercian monastery in Mogiła, and portrait of Bishop Tomicki in Saint Francis Church in Kraków.en icon cite web |author = Michael J. He also decorated the ceiling of the medieval library. Many of Samostrzelnik's religious miniatures are preserved in the collections of the British Museum, the Bodleian Library ("Bona Sforza's Hours" , 1528), and the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan.
