Renaissance painter andCisterian monk fromKraków . He was the first Polish painter known by name who painted in the Renaissance style. There are manyfresco s by him in the churches of southernPoland . Possibly his most well known work is that of the "Portrait of Piotr Tomicki", which, following a $12,000 donation, recently had restoration work carried out.Stanisław Samostrzelnik gained recognition for his ornamental miniatures in the genealogical book of the Szydłowiecki family, polychrome painting in the Cistercian monastery in Mogiła, and portrait of Bishop Tomicki in Saint Francis Church in
