Kathleen Pettingill is the matriarch of the infamous Melbourne based criminal family, the Pettingill family. Members of the Victoria Police have accused Pettingill of spawning "a "nest of vipers" Fact|date=May 2008. Pettingill has one glass eye after being shot through a closed door at the Collingwood Housing Commission of Victoria‎ flats by Kim Nelson and Keryn Thompson as she and her son Dennis attempted to repay a $300 debt on behalf of her daughter, Vicky [Shand,A: "Big Shots", Penguin Group, 2007] . Having herself been a prostitute she then went on to run successful brothels in South Melbourne and later Richmond, Victoria Fact|date=May 2008.

Her children include some of Melbourne's most infamous criminals:

*Dennis Allen, an infamous Melbourne drug dealer, reported to have murdered many victims. Died of a heart attack.
*Peter Allen
*Lex Peirce
*Victor Peirce, acquitted of the 1988 Walsh Street police shootings, killed in 2002.
