Karolinska Institutet was founded in the period between
1810 and1811 as a training center forarmy surgeons . The original name was at first 'Medico-Chirurgiska Institutet'. In1817 the prefix 'Karolinska' was added as a reference to 'Karoliner' which was the name of soldiers under the Swedish king Karl XIII. The full name thus became 'Kongl. Carolinska Medico Chirurgiska Institutet'. In1968 this name was changed to 'Karolinska Institutet'.Notable alumni or faculty
