- Salwa
Salwa is a suburb of the Hawalli governorate in
Kuwait , borderingRumaithiya to the north and Messila to the south. To the east (across Cooperative Road), it overlooks thePersian Gulf . Divided into twelve blocks, it is a residential area with a population close to 36,108.Like all suburbs in Kuwait, Salwa has its own government-run clinic and its own shopping center. This includes a supermarket and various restaurants (including
Burger King andStarbucks coffee). AMcDonald's has recently opened in the public park, located in Block 11.While there has been an effort by the municipality to move schools out of the area, currently a number of foreign schools remain. These include the
Kuwait English School ,British School of Kuwait and the Oxford Academy. Several public schools (elementary and secondary school) also exist.Houses in the area are generally 2-3 stories high, and a large number of Western expatriates reside in Salwa. Congestion, however, remains a major problem as most houses do not have adequate parking spaces. This results in vehicles being parked on public roads, causing heavily congestion - particularly during school hours. A newly built roundabout has managed to solve major traffic issues and decrease the number of traffic accidents.
