Bhrugubanda

Bhrugubanda

Bhrugubanda (pronounced bhru-gu-banda) is a village in Southern India, near Sattenepalle town in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Its history dates to 1000 BC, when the sage Bhrugu was prosecuted for being arrogant. "Banda" in Telugu means "rock," and Bhrugu was turned into a rock.

Another version:

Bhrugu did penance Tapas on the sacred rock, where Lord Jagannadha, with Subhadra and Balarama, is worshipped every day. In Bhrugubanda, to put Sikhara Deepam Oil Light on the top of the hill is considered a very prominent type of worship.
