GotFrag was founded in 2002 as a professional eSports coverage website that would provide news and updates for the growing gaming community. It provided gamers with a place to look up information and current happening about their favorite teams and/or players. Since then, the site has grown exponentially, and in 2004, GotFrag released the second version of their website, one which allowed for great expansion and content to provide its growing fanbase. Along with the launch of version 2, GotFrag announced their GotFrag Prime service. Prime provided paying viewers additional content, features, and benefits. In December 2004, GotFrag revolutionalized record keeping and statistics in eSports by debuting [http://gotfrag.com/portal/stats/ GameSense] . GameSense is the first ever statistical database of professional players, and it has allowed for many players and fans of gaming to have a sense of who the best player or team is in the world.

When first launched, GotFrag primarily provided coverage for the game of "Counter-Strike", however, with the continuous expansion to greater coverage, they added several other sections to their website. In 2005, GotFrag would once again find itself in a position where it would require a new version of the website in order to provide continual improvement of content delivery. Therefore, in August 2005, GotFrag released its third version of the website, which was designed by Surreal Media. Along with many other added features, GotFrag announced that it would be the Official Media Partner of four of the biggest gaming competitions; Cyberathlete Professional League, Cyberathlete Amateur League, CyberEvolution and Global Gaming League.

In September 2006, Gotfrag introduced it's "GotComms" service which caters to ventrilo and teamspeak server rental.

On June 6 2007, Major League Gaming acquired Gotfrag for an undisclosed sum.

Departments

Gotfrag Forums

Gotfrag's most heavily trafficked pages are the forums in which gamers engage in a constant battle of words. Gotfrag's censorship of the forums has occasionally drawn widespread criticism from its members; some of whom claim that as the primary outlet of information for an industry, Gotfrag has the responsibility of acting as a media watchdog for the gaming community, a community that is often seen as relatively unstable and immature.

FPSLabs

The first network site developed by Gotfrag was Gotfrag Hardware, later renamed to FPSLabs. Focusing on gaming related hardware and peripheral reviews the site has a technical support forum and features semi regular hardware price guides.

Gotfrag EXE

Gotfrag has launched a site dedicated to reviewing software and games. When reviewing games EXE attempts to give the multi player aspect of games a fair scoring, as most game review web sites focus solely on single player.

Gotfrag DPAD

Gotfrag DPAD was the first addition to the GotFrag website that was not PC gaming related. DPAD originally included game reviews, previews, and features in addition to competitive gaming coverage. On 5 March 2008, DPAD announced that it would be shutting down,Cite web|url=http://dpad.gotfrag.com/portal/story/41817|title=DPAD Home: DPAD, No More|accessdate=2008-03-06|publisher=GotFrag|year=2008|author=Michael Antebi] however a day later it was announced that the website would simply be changing directions.
