- Place Saint-Sulpice
The large square of Place Saint Sulpice, which is dominated on the east side by the enormous
church of Saint-Sulpice, was built in1754 in the quiet, tranquil gardens of theLatin Quarter of theVIe arrondissement ofParis .Features
In addition to the church, the square features:
* the Fountain of the Four Bishops, built in the center of the Square in1844 and designed by the architectJoachim Visconti . The Fountains features the statue of four bishops on each of its sides: Bossuet, Fénelon, Fléchier and Massillon
* pink flowering chestnut trees
* the Café de la Mairie, a rendezvous of writers and students. The Café was featured in the1990 film "La Discrète ", directed by Christian Vincent, and starringFabrice Luchini andJudith Henry
* the "mairie" (city hall) of the VIe arrondissementTransportation
The square is served by the Saint-Sulpice station of the
Paris Métro .
