Rosemary Rapaport and Irene Forster founded the school in 1962 under the original name of the Central Tutorial School for Young Musicians, at Conway Hall. The school later moved toMorley College , and subsequently toHampstead . The school changed its name to the Purcell School in 1973. In 1975, the school moved to Harrow, before settling at its current location on the formerRoyal Caledonian School campus inBushey .
