Jessop's Clock

Jessop's Clock

Jessop's Clock is located in San Diego, California, USA. It was commissioned in 1905 by one of the city's noted jewelers, Joseph Jessop, and stood in the city's downtown centre for most of the 20th century. Claude D. Ledger, an employee of Jessop's jewelry store was tasked with building the clock. After fifteen months, the clock was completed in 1907. It won a gold medal at that year's Sacramento State Fair.

It is said that on the day of Ledger's death, Jessop's clock stopped working for reasons that are as yet unknown. This tale has given the clock status as a San Diego landmark.

Jessop's Clock was moved to Horton Plaza, a large outdoor shopping centre in downtown San Diego, in 1984 and remains there today.
